About Taxloupe

What this is

Taxloupe is an independent project. I'm a developer building free, straightforward calculators for taxes and take-home pay. No account required, no data collected, no paywalled results. You enter numbers, you get an answer, you leave.

Most free tax calculators are vague about their methodology, out of date, or buried under advertising that makes them hard to use. Taxloupe tries to be different: each calculator cites its source, shows its formula, and is updated as official rates change.

Methodology

Every rate, threshold, and formula is taken directly from official tax authority publications. We do not use third-party data aggregators or estimates where an official figure exists.

  • US Internal Revenue Service — Schedule SE instructions, Publication 926, Form 8959, Form 1040-ES, and related IRS guidance.
  • AU Australian Taxation Office — ato.gov.au tax tables, Medicare levy rules, and PAYG withholding schedules. (Calculator in development.)
  • UK HM Revenue & Customs — gov.uk/hmrc Income Tax rates and allowances, National Insurance contribution rates. (Calculator in development.)

Where official guidance for a future tax year has not yet been published, any estimate is clearly marked as such. Once confirmed rates are released, figures are updated and marked as verified.

Update schedule

Calculators are reviewed at the start of each tax year when new rates, thresholds, and wage bases are published by the relevant authority. The Last reviewed date on each calculator page shows when the underlying figures were last verified against official sources.

Not tax advice

Calculators on Taxloupe produce estimates based on publicly available tax rules applied to the numbers you enter. They do not account for your full individual circumstances: state or local taxes, deductions, credits, treaty positions, phase-outs, or other factors that a tax professional would evaluate in your specific case.

Nothing on this site is tax advice, legal advice, or financial advice. For guidance specific to your situation, consult a qualified tax professional.
